OUR VETERINARIANS

Meet the folks who make it all happen. We see big potential in every moment, & care deeply about what we do every day.

Dr. Jennifer Ahlquist

Veterinarian and Medical Director

When Dr. Jennifer Ahlquist was a child, the family dog (a feisty Cocker Spaniel) suffered a serious fall and dislocated her hip. The injury required a major surgery followed by an extensive recovery period. This experience sparked a desire and determination in Dr. Ahlquist to one day become a veterinarian. Today, she is thrilled to be able to help other animals the same way she helped nurse her own dog back to health so many years ago.

Dr. Ahlquist’s journey began as a part time kennel assistant during high school. From there, she worked as a veterinary technician during her summer breaks while she attended college. After graduating Magna Cum Laude from Texas A & M University, she started her veterinary career near her hometown of Sugar Land. Dr. Ahlquist has been with The Corner Vet since 2015 and has played a pivotal role in our growth and evolution into a full service clinic.

Professionally, Dr. Ahlquist enjoys internal medicine, as it allows her to manage challenging cases and work closely with clients to provide the best possible care for their fur babies. She also has a special interest in dermatology and preventative care. She devotes a significant portion of her time and energy toward client education on both of these topics.

At home, Dr. Ahlquist lives with her loving husband and their two children. When she’s not running the kids to their various sports and school related activities, she can usually be found giving endless belly rubs to Diamond, the family’s lab-pit mix, or watching their golden lab, Chase, (unsuccessfully) hunt geckos and squirrels in the backyard.

Dr. Josie Flowers, DVM

Owner/Chief Medical Officer

Leadership

Like most in the veterinary industry, Dr. Flowers has always had a deep compassion for animals. However, she did not set out, nor did she ever wish upon any star in the known galaxy, to one day own a veterinary practice. Who would want that kind of stress? Practicing is stressful enough! Yet, for the first time in her storied life, she finally feels as though she has found her true calling: taking care of the people who care for the animals.

While attending Texas A&M for both her undergraduate and post-graduate education, Dr. Flowers spent time volunteering at an equine-only practice and also worked at several small animal and exotic clinics. Her goal was to gain experience in a little bit of everything. Following her graduation in May of 2008, Dr. Flowers moved to Greenville, TX to join a mixed animal practice. In 2015, she joined The Corner Vet team as an Associate Veterinarian. In May of 2016, she was promoted to Chief Medical Officer, and in June of 2020, she officially purchased the practice.

Professionally, Dr. Flowers is most passionate about helping veterinary students and newly graduated veterinarians navigate the transition from student to practitioner. The first year in practice is the most important and sets the stage for the remainder of one’s career and quite honestly, one’s personal life as well. She enjoys putting teams together, building the practice around the doctor and staff, and creating a culture that is both fulfilling and allows for balance on the home front.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Flowers is a proud Mom to two amazing kids: a daughter and a son. Her family resides in Rockwall, TX. Between single parenting, making ball games and practices, serving on the PTA Board, serving as Den Leader in Cub Scouts, travelling to Houston for business and serving in her life group at church, she spends what little remaining free time she has with her family.

If there’s any advice that Dr. Flowers could give, it’s that life is short. You only get one, so don’t waste it. And above all, do not lose your sense of humor. Whether she’s going Mach 10, trying to do twenty things at once, putting her underwear on inside out, or putting her coffee mug in the fridge, Dr. Flowers is always ready for a good laugh.
