Tick Control

Tick Control

Pets are extremely susceptible to tick bites and tick borne diseases. Unfortunately, vaccines are not available for most of these diseases nor do they keep your pups from bringing these potentially disease-ridden critters into your home. Here are a few tips on protecting your family (furry and non-furry) from ticks.

It’s incredibly important to ensure your pets are given a tick preventative regularly. Preventatives are released over time (usually a month) through body oils that spread over your pet. The chemicals attack the nervous system of the parasite paralyzing them and ultimately killing them.

Check Your Pet
If your pet is outdoors on a regular basis, it’s important to check them for ticks. If you find a tick, remove and eliminate it immediately.

Yard Care
Another way to keep ticks away is to make your yard as inhospitable as possible. Clear away all tall grasses and brush around your home and at the edge of your lawn. If you live in a wooded area, you can put down a 3ft wide wood chip barrier to prevent the migration of ticks into your yard. Keeping the lawn mowed nice and low will help as well.
